We are the Thrilling Threes!

Welcome to Year 3, the first year in Key Stage 2. In the transition from Key Stage 1 to Key Stage 2, we work hard but hopefully have lots of fun along the way! We continue to show our excellent behaviour and be good role models for everyone at SMC.

In Year 3, we strive to become more independent learners and confident young people. We will be encouraged to develop a set of skills that will enable us to access our learning in a variety of ways. This will foster our development of resilience and perseverance when trying out new things. During Year Three, we will explore, discover and experience new things, enjoy our learning and work hard together to create a positive and helpful learning environment to support each other.

In English this year, we will be looking at building the skills learned from Key Stage 1 and developing and enhancing them further in line with Year 3 expectations. We will be planning, drafting, editing and rewriting different compositions based on our focus text. In addition, we will build on our vocabulary to create attention grabbing sentences. We will practice joining our handwriting to become more fluent with our handwriting style.

In Maths, we will be building on our knowledge we already have and be encouraged to think more deeply by being presented with the questions “How?” and “Why?” This means greater reasoning, problem solving, explanations and showing our working out in all Maths lessons. We will need to know our times tables and related division facts for the 2,3,4,5,8 and 10 times tables.

In our classroom, you will always find us developing our love for learning with Mr. Dixon, Miss. Sweeney and Mrs Farrell . To find out more about our exciting topics and opportunities in Year 3, please click on the links below.
