We are the wonderful ones!

Welcome to Year One! We are part of Key Stage One and work together with Year Two.

In Year One we include everyone and ‘Love one Another’. Everyone is our friend and we are all special and unique. We care for each other, help each other, respect each other, listen to each other and always try our best.

We are a team and celebrate each other’s successes.

We are becoming more independent learners and phonics is very important. We practise our phonics every day and apply our skills in our reading and writing in all lessons and homework. We are also becoming more independent in every day skills and so are working at putting our own homework books in the box on the right day as well as giving Mrs Shaw any money or letters from our book bags ourselves. We can also dress and undress ourselves ready for P.E.

In order to reach our potential in Maths, we need to be able to count up to and from 100 starting from any number. We need to know our number bonds and subtraction facts to 20 and be able to add and subtract to 20. We also use Mathletics to support and apply our knowledge and skills.

In English we need to be able to write in sentences using capital letters, finger spaces and full stops. We need to use our phonics knowledge including blending and segmenting words to help us with our reading and writing. We need to read every day to an adult and talk about what we have read. We are also working hard to be able to spell all the words on Year One list and learn and apply our growing grammar skills.

In our classroom you will always find us working hard and having fun with Mrs Shaw and Mrs Webster. To find out more about our learning in Year One, please click on the links below.
