Chaplaincy

At SMC, we believe that every child is special and that ‘the child is at the center of everything we do.’  At the heart of our school is our Catholic faith and we strive to ensure that the children develop spiritually and morally as well as academically, physically, socially and creatively.

We are a school and church community whose mission statement calls us to:

“Love one another as I have loved you.” – John 13:34-35

Chaplaincy at SMC

Our Chaplaincy Team is made up of children from Year 5. Children apply to be part of the Chaplaincy Team and are passionate about their role. The children work closely with Miss O’Neill and our Lay Chaplain Vicky. As skilled leaders in prayer and worship, they play an important role in supporting the spiritual life of our school community. Within their role they:

🙏 Encourage Prayer and Worship – Lead lunchtime prayer groups, plan, deliver and evaluate Celebrations of the Word,  support liturgical celebrations like the Ash Wednesday liturgy, Mass and events in the Liturigcal Year, monitor prayer stations in the classroom and around school and provide home prayer bags to be used throughout the year.

📖 Promote Faith & Values – Be role models for everyone in the school by always living out the school values and share they knowledge of scripture with others.

💙 Provide Support and Care – Offer emotional and spiritual support to everyone by being a listening ear for those in need.

🤝 Charity Work  – Organise fundraising events to help those in need, following Jesus’ example of love and service.

🎉 Celebrate Important Religious Events – Help plan and participate in key religious celebrations such as Advent, Lent, and Holy Week.

In addition to our own Chaplaincy Team, we are also privileged to be able to use the resources and support of our Trust Chaplaincy Team:
