Nursery (Foundation 1)

Welcome to our Nursery!

We are so excited to welcome you all and support you and your child in the very important beginning of their learning journey at St. Margaret Clitherow.

We want to give our children a happy, secure and exciting start to their learning. We want them to have a love of learning, grow in confidence, make friends, learn how to take turns and share, be kind and love God. We will support them so that they develop spiritually, socially, physically, intellectually and emotionally.

Please can you make sure every piece of clothing has your child’s name in it (including pants, shoes, bags, water bottles, jumpers, coats etc).

Please can you also provide a pair of wellies and a waterproof coat (with their name in), to stay in school if possible, so we can always play outside and splash in puddles whatever the weather!

We have P.E. on a Monday so please make sure your child comes to school in their P.E kit (black leggings/tracksuit bottoms, trainers/plimsols, red school P.E. T.Shirt and school jumper, all with their name in please.

Your child will have a Reading Diary and choose a reading book, from our book trolley, to take home every Monday. Please snuggle up together and enjoy reading the book. Read it a few times and talk to them about it. Ideas you could talk about – Did they like the book or not? What did they like/not like about it? What characters are in the book? Look at the pictures together and ask them to find things e.g. Can you point to the dog? Can you see a ball? What colour is the boy’s hat?

Any talking together will benefit your child language, understanding and enjoyment of reading. This will support giving them the best start to their learning journey.

Then can you please write what you have done in their Reading Record and bring both the reading book and Reading Record to school each Monday so we get to see what you have done.

Please keep reading other books you have at home and library books to them as usual.

If your child hasn’t joined a library we highly recommend you do as you can access hundreds of great books to enjoy together. They may even do a sticker book scheme where every time your child visits the library they receive a sticker! They also do events like storytelling to look out for.

Local libraries to school include:-

Class dojo

In the EYFS unit, we will be trialling a communication app called Class Dojo. You may have heard of Class Dojo since many other schools use it already. Class Dojo will allow you to communicate any queries or concerns to members of the EYFS Team.

The EYFS Team will also post reminders, notices and photos of activities happening in class, although messages will not necessarily be posted every day or every week.

Please come and see us if you have any questions or are unsure of anything. We are here to support and help you.

We look forward to working with you as a team.
